Light air predicted for 18th Palermo-Monte Carlo Race
Palermo, Sicily — 44 entries in three classes - ORC, IRC and Class 40 - will start today in the 18th edition of the Palermo-Monte Carlo Race, organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia (CVS) and Yacht Club de Monaco in partnership with Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) under the patronage of FIV and UVAI.

Weather is predicted to be light air for most of the race, so teams are expected to hug the coasts of Sardinia and Corsica in search of breeze while en route to the finish in Monte Carlo, 437 miles from the start in Palermo.

Given the forecast, the record time set in 2015 of 47 hours, 46 minutes and 48 seconds captured by the Reichel/Pugh 100 ESIMIT EUROPA II is considered safe, although this same boat now owned by Australian Peter Harburg as BLACK JACK has a better chance than any other in the fleet of capturing line honors.
