29 February 2024 - The ORC Superyacht community around the world is mourning the recent passing of Stan Pearson in Antigua. His influence as a rigger, event organizer, and active sailor aboard many prominent Superyachts was instrumental in accepting and using the ORCsy system in the Caribbean circuit of events and beyond.
This includes the Antigua Superyacht Challenge, which he helped organize as the first event of each year’s Caribbean winter season.
“Stan was an early supporter of our efforts at building and supporting the ORCsy system,” said Alessandro Nazareth, Vice-Chairman of the ORC’s International Technical Committee and head of the ORCsy technical group. “This took a considerable investment of time and expertise to be successful, and we relied on Stan’s valuable input and enthusiasm to build the system to its current success.”
Kate Branagh, organizer of the Superyacht Cup Palma, said, “Stan was a great guy, a talented sailor, an old-school yachtsman, and always enthusiastic about racing Superyachts. He was a strong character for sure; he had his opinions, but he always wanted to do the right thing. He will be greatly missed by the yachting community in Antigua and his vast group of friends worldwide.”
