This year’s AEGEAN 600, organized by the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC) and co-organised by Olympic Marine, has in its 4th annual edition once again proven to be among the world’s most challenging 600-mile races.

An impressive turnout of 250 boats from throughout the USA and CAN have assembled in Chicago for today’s start of the 115th edition of the Chicago-Mackinac Race. This annual race of 290 miles is the oldest annual freshwater distance race in the world, with a start held off the urban city front of downtown Chicago to finish at the small island of Mackinac that lies at the confluence of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

The changes to the rules announced immediately on finishing last year’s 41st edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE ahead of the European Championships 2025, has created a completely new list of favourites for the podium of the Altavista ORC 2. The two main reasons are firstly, that the fastest boats from 2023 are now participating in the Odilo ORC 1 class, and secondly, that the fastest boats in the ORC 3 class have now been integrated into the Altavista ORC 2.

Lisa R Dominates ORC 0 Class and Overall, Sos Mar Menor Wins the 2024 ORC European Championship Title

Saturday's races were held across the Alpha, Bravo, and Charly courses, with sailors giving their all on the water. The day began with 8-9 knots of wind, increasing to 13 knots from the East. The overall provisional class leaders are Lisa R (Ker 46, ORC 0), Elena Nova (Swan 42, ORC 1), Katara by Ready Set Go (PG390, ORC 2), Mon de L’Ona II (Vroljik 37, ORC 3), Enewtec (First 34.7, ORC 4), Milu’4 (Este 24, ORC Sportboat).

The ORC classes 0 to 4, and ORC Sportboat fleets competed across the Alpha, Bravo, and Charly courses. The day began with a 95-degree wind at 7 knots, shifting to 100-105 degrees and settling between 6 and 8 knots from the East.

An impressive record turnout of 69 teams from 22 nations are making their final preparations for the Sunday 7 July start of the fourth edition of the AEGEAN 600. This annual race organized by the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC) with support from Olympic Marine will send this fleet of 64 monohulls and 5 multihulls on a scenic and challenging tour of the Aegean Sea.

On the first day of inshore racing, the thirteen participating boats sailed in the Alpha course with favorable conditions averaging 7-8 knots on the 27.7-mile course, the results of which were scored with ORC Time-On-Time Weather Routing Scoring.

One of the most competitive fleets in the 42nd edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE is the “Odilo ORC 1” class, due to the homogeneity of its boats, and is likewise the most international group competing, with 12 countries registered across the 22 teams.

This week, at one of Europe's best sailing venues, there will be two important events in ORC racing. From June 28 to July 7, the Real Club Náutico de Valencia (RCNV) is hosting 25th edition of the Trofeo S.M. La Reina and the ORC Sportboat European Championship 2024

With the long race completed, the inshore races of the event will take place between July 4 and 7 at the RCN of Valencia.

The Edison Next 2024 Italian Offshore Sailing Championship concluded with a fully adhered program of 8 races over four days. The continental event will take place within the emblematic regatta - Trofeo S.M. La Reina - of the Real Club Náutico de Valencia and will feature 18 boats from 5 countries

Gotland Runt, the world's largest annual offshore race, will make a temporary return to its historical roots in Sandhamn in 2024. The start, which has been in central Stockholm in recent years, is moved to the iconic Sandhamn where sailors, spectators, and partners will be offered a unique opportunity to relive classic memories and create new ones.

The 42nd Copa del Rey MAPFRE is just one month away, and following the final team registration deadline on 15th June, the different classes are beginning to denominate the favourites.

Roy van Aller, 77, passed on Sunday 23rd June after a very nice sailing trip on his boat in his hometown of Breskens, Netherlands. He became unwell and tragically fell into the water and died after unsuccessful resuscitation.

The ORC Double-Handed Worlds leading the way: The use of trackers to display the positions of sailing yachts in offshore races is no longer a novel technology. Nearly all prominent long races held around the world have such a system to help media, spectators, and race managers give real-time information on the positions of the entries on the race course.
